Alumni Council

The Alumni body of the Hertie School of Governance is made up of all individuals who have successfully completed programmes at the Hertie School of Governance (Master of Public Policy, Executive Master of Public Management, or an Executive Education course).  All of these individuals have the right to participate in Alumni activities, to be elected to a position as an Alumni Council Representative, and to benefit from the services that the Alumni Relations team and the Alumni Council provide.

The Alumni Council was founded after the graduation of the first class of the Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme in June 2007. In addition to Hertie School alumni, the Council includes a representative from the administrative staff and a faculty representative. Through a liaison, the Council also maintains relations to the current students of the MPP programme.

Aims of the Alumni Council:

  • Serve as the link between the Hertie School of Governance and its alumni,
  • Maintain and build the internal alumni network, not only within the MPP and the EMPM but also with Executive Education alumni,
  • Provide information (e.g. on school development, career opportunities, etc.) and professional development opportunities (e.g. workshops during annual get-togethers and invitations to Hertie School conferences and events).

The work of the Alumni Council has already helped to institutionalise Alumni Relations at the Hertie School of Governance.

Key activities:

  • Raising funds and awarding the Hertie Internship Fund from Alumni that financially supports one current MPP student during his/her summer internship
  • Organising the annual Alumni Reunion for socialising and networking
  • Presenting the Alumni student thesis Award for an outstanding MPP thesis
  • Coordinating with the MPP magazine, SP3, and the Hertie School newsletter to include alumni updates
  • Representing Alumni positions in the Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees
  • Developing provisional online networking and exchange services, and
  • Participating in the development of a sustainable online Alumni Platform

As the Alumni Network grows, the Alumni Council and the Alumni Relations team will continue to coordinate efforts and provide useful services for all Hertie School Alumni.  The Council can be contacted at alumnicouncillist(at)hertie-school.org and looks forward to your ideas and requests
