Professional Year

Grasp a Unique Opportunity

In addition to the curriculum, selected Master of Public Policy (MPP) students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Professional Year programme between their first and second year of study. An ideal supplement to the theoretical segment of the MPP, the Professional Year gives participating students valuable real-world working experience and often influences participants' study focus in their second year of study.

The Hertie School currently has Professional Year programmes in place in Germany with two federal ministries, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH , and institutions from the private business sector.

Students wishing to undertake a Professional Year are also encouraged to be proactive in securing a position at institutions from the three sectors. 

The Professional Year can be completed anywhere in the world. You are not limited in regards to location.  If you are interested in applying for opportunities in Germany, keep in mind that German language skills will be required.
