Soren shares his experience of the Hertie School of Governance and the Executive Master of Public Management.
How has your professional network across the public, private and/or civil society sectors expanded during your time at the Hertie School?
My professional network especially into the public sector has expanded tremendously. It was great to have the possibility to get to know and to study with future leaders from the public sector. I did not only expand my professional network across the different sectors, some of my peers even became friends.
How have your studies at the Hertie School expanded your competences to work at the interface of the private, public and civil society sectors and/or to make transitions between these sectors during your career?
To have a vast knowledge of the challenges as well as trends in the private, public as well as in the civil society sector is essential, because interactions and cooperative arrangements between the sectors are increasing. One focus of the EMPM is to transfer this knowledge through its core courses and electives. The EMPM did not only provide me with a theoretical background but also gave the opportunity to discuss the theory and its practical relevance with leaders and practitioners from all three sectors.
For me the best thing about the EMPM was the possibility to discuss topics with highly motivated peers who have relevant working experience from different sectors from all over the world. This gave me the opportunity to broaden my horizon as well as to get new ideas of how to implement the theoretical knowledge in my work as a business consultant at Accenture.
