Claudia shares her experience of the Hertie School of Governance and the Master of Public Policy.
If you were asked to highlight one thing that you have learnt during your time at the Hertie School so far what would it be and why?
I have learned to explore new explanations for old problems using a set of tools from different disciplines as economics, law, political science and sociology. As I have a background in engineering and economics, the interdisciplinary character of the MPP program has been the more valuable asset of the Hertie School for me. I have find different perspectives to analyze problems not only from classes but also from my classmates and their different origins and backgrounds.
How are your studies at the Hertie School enhancing your undergraduate studies and work experience; and equipping you to effectively engage with public policy questions?
During my professional work in public sector in Colombia I experienced a constant “learning by doing”. I came to the Hertie School looking for tools to improve this professional work and its final outcome, which is the quality life of people in my country. I would say that the Hertie School gives me the theory to improve my practice.
What kind of a career would you like to pursue and how are your studies at the Hertie School preparing you for this?
I would like to develop a career in public sector in Colombia. I am specially interested in the energy and environmental area. The MPP of the Hertie School provides me with an optimal combination of analytical and managerial skills that I need to pursue this career.
