Jonathan Fitzsimons

MPP Class of 2012

Jonathan shares his experience of the Hertie School of Governance and the Master of Public Policy.

If you were asked to highlight one thing that you have learnt during your time at the Hertie School so far what would it be and why?

My knowledge of Economics and Finance has improved dramatically from a position of no prior experience, where it has become a genuine interest.

How are your studies at the Hertie School enhancing your undergraduate studies and work experience; and equipping you to effectively engage with public policy questions?

The key reason why the MPP curriculum suites my undergraduate studies is that it substanciates my law degree with areas of knowledge around law, and which will prove very important for my future career.  The EU legal regime works very much within the EU policy domain, and it is pivotal to understand both simultaneously.

What kind of a career would you like to pursue and how are your studies at the Hertie School preparing you for this?

I would like to work in the EU Directorate for Competition Law, or within the private sector in this genre of work.  Hertie School prepares me academically, professionally and culturally for this integration.
