
If you enter the country without a national visa for studying in Germany but only a tourist visa you will have to leave Germany after 3 months; that may also apply to the case that you already obtain a visa/residence permit for another EU-country than Germany - please check in this case with the German Embassy in the respective EU-country what is required in your very personal case to come to Berlin and to apply at the Berlin alien authority for a residence permit for studying at the Hertie School.
The requirements for sufficient financial resources are fulfilled when you have at least EUR 638 per month at your disposal. If you receive a stipend to cover your costs of living, please submit the relevant financial statement (DAAD or other institutions or foundations) to the respective authority.
And that you do have sufficient consecutive empty pages for your entry visa (1-2 pages) and your residence permit (1-2 pages)
Students from the EU/EEA who are under 30 can provide the European Health Insurance Card which can be obtained at the health insurance company in their home country. All international students who are older than 30 years have to take a private health insurance.
Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Iceland receive upon their registration at the Bürgeramt a document stating that they have the right of freedom of movement; for them there is no further permit required for studying in Germany
Meanwhile you will get a letter stating that your passport is at the Ausländerbehörde. Please note that you cannot leave the country with this letter. But you will have to carry this letter with you to prove your legal status in case of a police control. As soon as your residence permit will have been issued you will get your passport back.
