As part of the regular HSoG Film Series, Director Robert Thalheim joined students and staff for a screening of his film Netto (Germany, 2005). Mr. Thalheim is one of the rising stars on the film and theatre scene in Berlin. “Netto” was his feature-length debut and won several awards, including the Dialogue en Perspektive Award at the Berlinale as well as the German Film Critics Award for Best Feature Film Debut. Thalheim has also worked with numerous theatres in Berlin, including the Berliner Ensemble and the Maxim Gorki Theater.
In the post-screening discussion, Mr. Thalheim shared personal anecdotes about the filming of “Netto,” answering questions about both his technical and philosophical approaches to film-making. As a closing remark, Mr. Thalheim asserted that fictional films are often better at portraying reality than documentary films. All things considered, it was a fantastic opportunity for the HSoG community to learn about his craft.
