How to apply for the EMPM

Step 1 | Create an Online Account and complete the Online Application Form

Step 2 | Upload the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of Motivation
  • Official academic transcript(s)
  • Letter of reference from your current or your last employer (in English or German)
  • English proficiency certificate (for non-native English speakers, if applicable)

Applying for the EMPM

The Executive Master of Public Management is aimed at professionals from all sectors. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • a good higher education degree in any discipline (typically, EMPM participants have a background in business/economics, law, social science or natural sciences)
  • at least two years of relevant work experience (average is ten years)
  • proficiency in English

Applications for the next EMPM class starting in September 2014 are possible via the EMPM online application module.

Application deadlines:

  • 15 March 2014, 11.59pm (first deadline, relevant for candidates also applying for the CommIO, the European, the Central and Eastern European, or the Behördenspiegel scholarship)
  • 15 May 2014, 11.59pm (second application deadline, applications for Hertie School scholarships are still being accepted)

Preselected candidates are invited to a phone or skype interview with a member of the faculty or the EMPM Head. A selection committee then decides on the admissions for the new EMPM cohort. In case of equal qualification of candidates, the available places are granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
