The Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme at the Hertie School of Governance has a very demanding workload. Working part-time, given the tight academic schedule, requires good time management skills and should not adversely affect the quality of a student's performance. Students who are looking for work should consult (daily) newspapers, magazines or the internet to find out more about suitable vacancies. Through the internal communication platform "Hertie Connect", students at the Hertie School of Governance are provided with detailed information links to vacancies and professional development opportunities. They are also notified if student on-campus jobs become available. However, there are some general legal regulations that have to be considered. International students from outside the EU (excluding the most recent member states of May 2004 and January 2007, respectively) who are enrolled at a German university are only allowed to work 90 days full-time or 180 days part-time per year. Please note that the mandatory internships do not affect the total amount of allowed working hours.
In general, domestic as well as foreign students who are registered in Berlin may work for up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (i.e. 19.9 hours).
Alternatively, the Student Services as well as the Career Services teams at the Hertie School of Governance would be very happy to provide you with more information.
