Professor Kayser will serve in this capacity until the end of the Academic Year 2020/2021.
The Hertie School is pleased to announce that Mark Kayser, Professor of Applied Quantitative Methods and Comparative Politics, has been appointed as Dean of Research and Faculty, effective immediately.
Kayser’s research focuses on the economic underpinnings of democracy, including political accountability the effects of electoral competition on policy-making, and economic influences on electoral preferences. He joined the Hertie School in 2009.
Previously, Kayser was an assistant professor of political science at the University of Rochester, a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.
He is the co-author of a book on the effect of electoral systems on regulation and price levels (Cambridge University Press, 2011) and the author or co-author of articles in several leading journals. His most recent paper “Does the Media Cover the Economy Accurately? Evidence from Sixteen Developed Democracies” was published in the Quarterly Journal of Political Science this month.
Professor Kayser will serve in his new role throughout this Academic Year as Mark Hallerberg continues in his responsibilities as Deputy President.
