The revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests that swept through the Arab World in 2010/11 was characterized by widespread civil resistance as grass roots communities mobilized around the common goal of bringing longstanding regimes to their knees. Will the seeds of resistance that catalyzed the various revolts and revolutions grow into a stable civil society or do the current waves of violence spell trouble as the region looks forward?
What role should the media play in contributing to the stabilization of the region and what are the messages that need to be conveyed? How can independent media be strengthened and is there a role for social media activists in this process? How can educational systems in the region be enhanced to ensure that future generations are equipped to govern the region differently? And what role should the international community play to support this process?
