An internship is a mandatory aspect of the Master of Public Policy at the Hertie School. It gives students the opportunity to apply the theory they learn in class, while gaining professional experience and establishing contacts for the future.

Selected MPP students participate in the Professional Year programme between their first and second year. The Professional Year gives students valuable work experience and often influences their study focus thereafter.
