Coronavirus and admissions: What you should know

Important updates for prospective students

So you’re thinking about applying to the Hertie School? Or perhaps you’re currently working on submitting your application. Maybe you’ve already received an offer of admission from us. Or perhaps you’ve even confirmed your enrolment in one of our graduate programmes this fall.

Prospective students at different stages of the application process may be wondering how the current global health crisis is affecting admissions and how our team is working. Please rest assured that the admissions team, like the rest of the Hertie School administration, is still available and working remotely, and we are continuing to process and review applications.

Here are some important admissions-related updates we’d like to share with you:

  • Our events for prospective students have moved online . On Thursdays, from 4:00-6:00 pm CEST, you can join a member of the admissions team for virtual office hours. We’ll also be hosting regular coffee chats and webinars featuring faculty, staff, alumni and current students. Come chat with us!
  • We realise that campus closures and remote work may make it more difficult to get your grades and complete transcripts. Please note that we will still accept and review applications with an unofficial copy of your transcript or the most up-to-date version available to you. Once you are admitted, we’ll ask you to provide your official documents at a later time before the start of the fall semester.
  • We’ve extended the deadline to submit your TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge test scores to 15 July 2020, as we know many test centres are postponing exam dates.
  • The general application deadline for the MPP and MIA remains 1 May. For the Executive MPA, candidates interested in financial aid and focus scholarships should apply by 1 June. The final deadline to apply to the Executive MPA programme is 15 August.
  • The start date for the 2020/2021 academic year and presence-based learning currently remains unchanged: Orientation Week for all first-year students is scheduled from 31 August to 4 September, and the first day of classes is 7 September. We’ll update you immediately if things change.
  • At the moment, there may be delays in visa processing due to effects of the coronavirus. The Hertie School is in constant contact with the German Federal Foreign Office to monitor the situation. Please also continue to check the websites of your local German consulate for the most up-to-date information, and do get in touch with us if you are facing difficulties applying for a visa.
  • We are committed, as always, to being proactive and transparent in our communication with you. If you are experiencing any other challenges related to the coronavirus that are affecting your ability to apply to grad school, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We will do our best to support you.

You can contact us via e-mail at grad-admissions[at]hertie-school[dot]org , or schedule an individual call with a member of the admissions team.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please stay safe and take care of yourselves!
