War in Ukraine: Anita Gohdes comments on cyber warfare on Austrian broadcaster ORF

Russian disinformation campaign is growing but faces challenges, she says.

Russian dissemination of propaganda and misinformation is on the rise in conjunction with the war in Ukraine, but it is increasingly difficult to maintain due to the prevalence of contradictory narratives, said Anita Gohdes, Professor of International and Cyber Security, in a radio interview with the Austrian broadcaster ORF on 3 March 2022.

Commenting on the same issue in the ORF’s television programme the same day, Gohdes said that scepticism towards the official Russian state-run media narratives is growing, especially among young people: “What we have seen on Instagram, on TikTok and other social media during the last week is that young people have opposed the war and shown solidarity with Ukraine. And of course, this is extremely dangerous for Russia,” she explained.
