The Admissions Office will be closed from 22 December through 2 January, but here are some FAQs and application tips to help out while we’re away. We look forward to receiving your applications!
We’re taking a break here in the Hertie School Admissions Office as a busy year comes to a close, but we’ll be back on 3 January to answer all your questions. With our 1 February priority deadline for the MPP, MIA and MDS around the corner, it’s a good time to reflect on your letter of motivation or scholarship essay. We’ve gathered some FAQs and application tips for you in case you have admissions-related questions during the break.
Frequently Asked Questions

There is no specific length or word limit. However, this is not supposed to be a long research paper, so please keep it to around two pages. There are also no specific style or font guidelines, but do keep it simple and professional.
We want to see what topics you’re interested in and how you formulate your arguments. As you would with any piece of academic writing, please remember to cite your sources (any style is fine) if you include ideas, quotes or findings that are not your own.
To apply for the Atlantis dual degree or the MIA/MGA dual degree with the Munk School, please complete the Master of Public Policy (Atlantis) or Master of International Affairs (Atlantis and Munk) application form in the Hertie School application portal and indicate your Munk/Atlantis candidacy in the “Further Information” section. We’ll automatically consider you for the standalone MPP/MIA programme in addition to the dual degree.
We make decisions jointly with our partner institutions. As a result, it may take a bit longer to hear back. If you’re worried about meeting certain criteria or just want to get a feel for what our admissions counterparts at these universities look for, we recommend contacting them directly and taking a look at their websites. For a breakdown of our dual-degree programmes, check out our last blog post.
