ERCAS to present transparency index at OECD’s anti-corruption conference

For fifth year, Alina Mungiu-Pippidi’s centre is a “Knowledge Partner“ for the high-level event.

For the fifth year running, the European Research Centre for Anti-Corruption and State-Building (ERCAS), directed by Hertie School Professor of Democracy Studies Alina Mungiu-Pippidi, will join a group of prominent organisations as a “Knowledge Partner” for the annual OECD Global Anti-Corruption & Integrity Forum, to be held online on 23-25 March.

The high-level forum of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development brings together nearly 1500 participants annually and is the premier public event on integrity and anti-corruption worldwide. This year’s pandemic-related theme is “Leading through the crisis: Integrity and anti-corruption for a resilient recovery”.

Mungiu-Pippidi will present ERCAS’ research and findings in a session focusing on anti-corruption in public healthcare. The presentation will offer a reform agenda centred around ERCAS’s new project, funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, the Transparency (T) index. The T-index assesses government transparency in 122 countries, based on observable websites. It provides a roadmap for governments and civil society watchdogs to advocate for the kinds of transparency needed to reduce corruption.

ERCAS was established at the Hertie School in 2012. Mungiu-Pippidi leads the centre, which examines state-building and anti-corruption from a state-society perspective, focusing on the interplay of formal and informal institutions, governance regimes, norm transitions and the role of ethics in these spheres.
