Hertie School and professors among top ten economic policy influencers on Twitter in 2018

Makronom magazine ranks Enderlein and Kemfert top two experts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The online policy magazine Makronom ranked the Hertie School and two of its professors among the top ten economic policy influencers on Twitter in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) in 2018. Among 35 institutional profiles, the Hertie School  ranked eighth, but was the number one university – the rest of the top ten were think tanks or foundations.

Henrik Enderlein, Hertie School President and Professor of Political Economy, and Claudia Kemfert, Professor of Energy Economics and Sustainability and Head of the department Energy, Transportation, Environment at the German Institute of Economic Research (DIW Berlin), were the top two economists among 144 whose Twitter analyses, reports and opinions were widely read in the region in 2018. Enderlein came in second, moving up from tenth place in 2017, and Kemfert came in first, moving up from ninth place. Hertie School Professor of Public Policy Anke Hassel, Professor of Economics Christian Traxler and Professor of Public Management and Political Economy Mark Hallerberg were also among those who made the cut.

The magazine re-vamped its selection criteria in 2018, basing it on a combination of factors: the actual number of likes and retweets an individual receives, the average number of likes and retweets per tweet in relation to his or her number of followers, the number of followers the Twitter user has in the region and how many mentions he or she receives in those accounts.
