The new Dean of Graduate Programmes and Dean of Research and Faculty are both faculty members and experts on public administration.
With the start of the fall semester, Thurid Hustedt, Professor of Public Administration and Management, and Kai Wegrich, Professor of Public Administration and Public Policy, have taken on two leading academic positions at the Hertie School. For the next four years, Hustedt will serve as the new Dean of Graduate Programmes and Wegrich as the new Dean of Research and Faculty. Andrea Römmele, Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society, remains Dean for Executive Education. Together with President Cornelia Woll, Professor of International Political Economy, and Managing Director Dr. Axel Baisch, they make up the leadership team of the Hertie School.
Meet the Deans
Wegrich has been teaching at the Hertie School since 2007. He researches public sector innovation and the role of bureaucracy in policy formulation and implementation. Previously, he worked at the University of Potsdam, the RAND Corporation and the London School of Economics. Most recently, he published the textbook How to Do Public Policy (Oxford University Press) with Professor of Public Policy Anke Hassel.
Hustedt joined the Hertie School in 2018. She researches the relationship between politics and administration, administrative reforms and coordination (problems) in the public sector. Previously, she worked at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Potsdam. Together with Professor Sylvia Veit, she is the Managing Editor of the journal dms - der moderne staat.
Hustedt and Wegrich are successors of Professor of European Politics Christine Reh and Professor of Public Management and Political Economy Mark Hallerberg, respectively.
