Tobias Bunde discusses the implications of the "Zeitenwende" for Germany

Dr. Tobias Bunde, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for International Security and Director of Research & Policy at the Munich Security Conference, participated in an expert discussion on 3sat’s science talk show scobel.

As Germany struggles to come to terms with a worsening and more competitive security environment, Bunde talked about the difficult transition in the German foreign policy mindset. He argued that German foreign policy had almost perfectly adapted to the international order after the end of the Cold War but that this order had been eroding for a long time – with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine being the definitive end of the “post-Cold War era.” Moreover, the show discussed the implications of Russia’s brutal strategy in Ukraine, adequate responses from the West, and the particular role and responsibility of Germany.
