Akram Yacob has lived in six cities, studied at four universities and worked for institutions including the Singaporean Government and the United Nations since 2011. He worked at the Singaporean government for almost four years – first as a fireman with the Singapore Civil Defence Force and later as a research analyst with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Additionally, he completed several internships in the communications industry at marketing and public relations firms. Most recently, in his Professional Year, he interned with the United Nations Volunteers in Bonn and with Market Logic Software in Berlin. He seeks to integrate his communications and research experience gained from working in the public and private sectors into the fields of social networking, urbanisation and international security, in order to facilitate data-driven policymaking.
