Elena Wasserheß holds a Bachelor of Arts in European Studies from the University of Passau, where she focused on European foreign and security policy. After one year of working at the German Embassy in Paris, at a research institute in Istanbul and at a public affairs agency in Berlin, she studied the MIA at the Hertie School, concentrating on the intersection of security, stability and development. Between the first and the second year of the programme, Elena pursued a one-year contract at the Directorate-General for Security and Defence Policy at the Federal Ministry of Defence. Her responsibilities included strategic foresight on emerging security challenges and the content-related preparation of the Minister’s participation at international security policy events, such as the World Economic Forum in Davos. Elena continued working part-time in this position parallel to her studies.
