Luke Bonanno holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Queensland, Australia. As part of the MIA programme at the Hertie School, Luke specialised in security and development. He wrote his thesis on the application of EU Eastern Partnership policies in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, under the supervision of Wolfgang Ischinger (Senior Professor of Security Policy and Diplomatic Practice at the Hertie School). Luke's professional experience includes an internship at the Representation of the European Commission in Germany and he has extensive volunteer work experience in think tank organisations. He participated in the Schwarzkopf Foundation’s European Future in the Making event, which in 2018 presented its ideas to the German State Minister for Europe and the French Minister for European Affairs.
