Jaylan ElShazly holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Alexandria University in Egypt. At the Hertie School, she focused on women’s economic empowerment, her area of interest. She was a Strategic Programme Manager for 11 years at Ericsson in Egypt, Sweden and Silicon Valley. She then joined a start-up girl’s empowerment non-profit, Heya Masr, where she managed operations and partnerships. In 2018, she joined Nahdet El Mahrousa as Incubator Content Manager to help social entrepreneurs increase their impact and financial sustainability. Jaylan is a Heinrich Böll Foundation fellow, a contributing writer for the online feminist magazine Women of Egypt and a member of the Musical Theatre Society Berlin.
