Joanne Tay was an environmental policymaker in Singapore, where her work comprised multilateral negotiations and bilateral memorandum-of-understanding projects. She also has previous work experience as a communications specialist in the fields of defence and the environment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and New Media from the National University of Singapore, where she focused on public relations. Her current research interest at the Hertie School lies in exploring the ecology-economy nexus through experimental policy design. She is inspired by questions that stimulate rethinking, reform and (r)evolution of societies in Asia, Europe and beyond.
