Joia Buning specialised in foreign policy, security and development during her studies at the Hertie School. Prior to joining the Hertie School, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Amsterdam and spent a semester abroad at Sciences Po Paris. Her professional experience includes assisting a Dutch Member of Parliament on matters relating to foreign and European affairs as well as completing internships at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Brussels and at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Berlin, where she contributed to a research project on European cohesion. Furthermore, she worked as a graduate research assistant at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) in the field of global governance.
