Maximilian Zielke holds a Bachelor of Arts in European Studies from Maastricht University, where he focused on European governance and European foreign and security policy. After a year working at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Brussels, and at the Robert Schuman Foundation in Paris, he began his Master of Public Policy (MPP) at the Hertie School, concentrating on public management, European Union (EU) economic governance and international security. Between his first and second year of the MPP, Maximilian undertook a Professional Year and pursued a one-year contract at the Directorate-General for Strategy and Operations and the Directorate-General for Security and Defence Policy at the German Federal Ministry of Defence. His responsibilities included working on Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) projects and helping his division coordinate EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) matters.
