Márcio Carvalho took part in the dual degree programme between the Hertie School and Bocconi University where he completed a Master of Public Policy with a concentration in policy analysis and a Master of Science in Economics and Management of Government and International Organizations, respectively. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Brasilia. In addition to his graduate education, he joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to perform coordination and outreach activities for the Global Forum on Productivity in Paris. Before coming to Europe, he spent three years working for the U.S. Department of Defense Liaison Office in Brazil, where his management of bilateral Military Education and Training programmes earned him a Top Performer designation by the U.S. Southern Command Inspector General.
