Mhabeni Bona’s academic and professional interests centre on sustainable development policy and practice. Before joining the Hertie School, she worked in Yemen on a range of projects focusing on international education and workforce preparation for youth, as well as at a humanitarian call centre for internally displaced people. By means of the Hertie School’s Professional Year programme, she also spent a year as a research fellow at the United Nations System Staff College in Bonn. Mhabeni is a recipient of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Helmut-Schmidt Scholarship. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University, and a Master of Arts in International Relations (focusing on the Middle East) from Durham University.
