Cara Bien holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Heidelberg University. Between 2017 and 2021 she worked on creating the Conflict Barometer for the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research (HIIK), focusing on the conflicts in Ukraine and Iran. During her studies at the Hertie School and Georgetown University, she specialised in climate, energy and security policy. As part of her Professional Year she worked for the Climate Policy Support Programme at the German development agency GIZ, focusing on European climate politics and decarbonisation pathways of developing and emerging economies. Previously, she gained professional experience at the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.
