Berlin’s Hertie School strengthens presence in Latin America

Alumni Chapter Latin America opening; financial aid agreement with Colfuturo finalised.

Berlin, 7 November 2017 – Management, staff and alumni of the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin will meet 16-19 November in Bogota, Colombia for a number of official activities, representing a strengthening of the school’s presence in the region. These activities include an international alumni workshop, culminating in the opening of the Hertie School Alumni Chapter Latin America, and informational events for prospective students, in partnership with Colfuturo offering financial options for Colombian students.

“As the Hertie School’s alumni network of over 140 graduates from Latin America grows, these events represent an important institutional response for greater engagement in the region for prospective students and alumni,” says Axel Baisch, Managing Director of the Hertie School, who will be leading the delegation to Bogota.

The Hertie School is pleased to partner with Colfuturo, a Colombian scholarship loan programme, which will annually award funding to Colombian applicants: the Hertie School offers a 25% tuition waiver and remaining costs are awarded in the form of a loan from Colfuturo. Eight international alumni will join alumni from the region for a workshop “Implementing the Colombian peace process – Perspectives from the local, national and international level” at Universidad de los Andes 16-18 November, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The first day of the workshop included a visit from the High Commissioner of Peace Rodrigo Rivera.
Several alumni include Camilo Sánchez Meertens presented their work on the workshop topic.

The international alumni workshop culminates in the opening the Hertie School Alumni Chapter Latin America, joining chapters in Washington, DC and Berlin. The chapter will be led by José Julian Prieto, 2014 Master of Public Policy alumnus. The event will include a presentation of the results of the workshop on the Colombian peace process and a dinner.
