German public skepticism about the track-and-trace Corona Warn App remains high one year after its introduction, according to research by Simon Munzert, Hertie School Assistant Professor of Data Science and Public Policy, and the online survey company respondi, which was featured in an article in Die Zeit on 25 June.
Munzert and respondi surveyed 2,099 smartphone users to better understand the adoption of such apps in Germany. Half of them agreed with the statement, “I do not believe that the app is useful,” according to the article.
"The fact that there is such a misperception about how the app works shows how much more education would have been needed," says Munzert. “Many more people might have used the app if they had been better informed.”
