The Educational Governance Team at the Hertie School studies developments in education and training systems from an international and pluralist perspective. This includes comparative analyses of how policies are designed and delivered in education and training, how cooperation takes place across governance levels and educational sectors, as well as how education and training systems respond to mega-trends such as globalisation, Europeanisation, liberalisation and digitalisation, to enhance educational quality and social inclusiveness. Here, key foci include institutional and organisational change as well as the study of new modes of governance, spanning macro, meso, and micro levels. Among other things, the team is interested in the conditions for successful cooperation between relevant actor groups including students, parents, teachers, educational organisations, public authorities, unions, employers and intermediary associations. Furthermore, the team explores linkages between education and training systems and other societal spheres such as labour markets, occupational fields, economic sectors, or science systems.
