Ambassador Series: France

The Hertie International Relations Club presents the Ambassador Series with His Excellency Ambassador Philippe Étienne (Ambassador of France to Germany).

His Excellency Ambassador Philippe Étienne has been the Ambassador of France to Germany since the 22nd of August 2014. He studied mathematics at the École Normale Supérieure, and the École Nationale d’Administration in Paris, in addition to studying the Serbo-Croatian language at INALCO Paris. Mr Etienne began his career in the French central administration for European affairs, moving quickly to a diplomatic position in the Embassy of Belgrade. He is no stranger to Eastern European affairs, having served diplomatic positions in other Eastern European capitals such as Bucharest and Moscow. Mr Etienne has also had a considerable presence in EU affairs, having served twice in Bruxelles, once as second conseiller to the permanent mission of France to the EU, and once as the Ambassador of the same permanent mission, before carrying out his term as Ambassador to Germany. Mr. Etienne has received the honorary distinctions of Officier de la Légion d’Honneur, as well as Officier de l’Ordre Nationale de Mérite.

This initiative led by the International Relations Club gives Hertie School students the opportunity to engage in an informative dialogue with top level diplomats from diverse countries in an expressly informal setting - without the rigidity created by the presence of media representatives and other third parties. It poses a unique opportunity for students of public policy to gain first-hand experience of the diplomatic profession. This event is part of the 2016-17 edition of the Ambassador Series at the Hertie School.

We look forward to seeing you in the Forum! Refreshments will be provided at the end of the talk.
