Jörg Asmussen has been a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) since January 2012. He is responsible for the Directorate General International and European Relations and the Directorate General Legal Services. He represents the ECB in various European and international fora, e.g. the Euro Working Group and the G20 Deputies. Before joining the ECB, Asmussen served in various positions at the German Federal Ministry of Finance; he was State Secretary from 2008 to 2011 and held various mandates in this position. He was the German representative in the Euro Working Group and in the G20 Deputies, a member of the Financial Stability Board, alternate Governor of the World Bank and of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and acted as the Chancellor’s G20 Sherpa in 2011. He was member of the supervisory boards of Deutsche Telekom and of Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Germany’s development agency. Asmussen holds a diploma in Economics (University of Bonn) and a MBA from Bocconi (Milan).
