How the Hertie School is supporting our community during the pandemic.
The Hertie School is pleased to welcome students back for the 2020/21 Academic Year. Together, we all share the responsibility for keeping our community safe and healthy.
Our hygiene rules and measures for daily operations, are continually updated to reflect changing guidelines and regulations by local health authorities. Stay up to date by reviewing the FAQs regularly.
Your safety comes first - and Student Life is here to help. Reach out to Student Life for answers to all your questions. If you test positive for COVID-19, please contact Student Life. We will then take all necessary steps in cooperation with you and with the Berlin Health Authorities. Get help with visas, residence permits, COVID-19 regulations, health insurance, housing and more.
How are courses currently taught? As regulations shift, our teaching format has also adapted, moving from onsite programming to full online and, where we can, offering a limited number of onsite classes. In spring 2021, most classes will run online, but a small number of courses and labs will take place on-site or in a hybrid format.
Study from home. Our Digital Learning Team and IT have developed learning tools, trained faculty and assistants and outfitted our classrooms with the technology for remote learning. A combination of pre-recorded and live classes will accommodate different time zones, as will labs. You’ll find everything you need to know about online classes on Moodle.
Remember to follow these rules:
-
Wear masks. Medical masks are mandatory in shared spaces and whenever more than one person is in a room, including in classes, offices, and meeting rooms.
-
Maintain social distancing. Stay at least 1.5 metres apart from others.
-
Air out rooms. Have a window open or air the room at least twice an hour.
-
Wash your hands. Use the lavatory and/or the hand disinfectant the school has provided on every floor.
-
Cough/sneeze into your elbow. This reduces aerosol transmission and keeps your hands clean.
-
Please sign in visitors. The reception desk will now take down the contact details of guests from outside our community.
-
Reserve spaces. Whether you’re reserving a study room or a spot in the reading room, make sure you sign yourself and anyone you’re bringing up online. This is crucial to using these resources safely.
-
Report symptoms. If you develop known symptoms or test positive for Covid-19, please keep Student Life in the loop so we can keep the entire Hertie School community safe.
-
Stay home if you're sick. If you exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home. You can always conduct your studies remotely.
