Evolution of Democratic Innovations

The 2017 Governance Report's evolution of democratic innovations tool shows the share of countries within a particular category that have a democratic innovation in place in a given year and for which data is available. Countries can be grouped by regime type according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Democracy Index 2016, by income group according to the World Bank's List of Economies (March 2017), by OECD status, or by continent. Thus the evolution of specific innovations can be traced over time, from 1950 to 2015.
