International Security Fellowships

This fellowship is destined for researchers working on topics related to the four core research areas of the Centre: nuclear security, states and non-state actors, grand strategy, and digital technology and security.

Research fellows are usually appointed for a ten-month period from September through June, with a possibility for renewal, but exceptions will be considered. Research fellows will be listed on our website, will benefit from access to the Hertie library and may be provided with desk space at the Centre, subject to availability.

Research fellows are expected to devote time to collaborative Centre endeavors. They are expected to present their research in our research colloquium, attend Centre events, propose Centre activities on their own, and contribute to the Centre's research activities.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from junior as well as senior researchers who hold (or are in the processing of obtaining) a Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in political science, sociology or economics. We accept applications from citizens of all countries and encourage women and minorities to apply.

Stipend Information

All research fellowships are currently non-stipendiary appointments. However, the Centre can assist with funding applications from external sources such as the DAAD or the Humboldt foundation.

This fellowship intends to bring practitioners from government, non-governmental organizations, and/or the private sector to the Centre to share practical insights and expertise with students, postdocs, research fellows, and faculty. We especially appreciate practical experience related to the four core research areas of the Centre: nuclear security, states and non-state actors, grand strategy, and digital technology and security.

Practice fellows are usually appointed for a ten-month period from September through June, with a possibility for renewal, but shorter time periods will also be considered. Practice fellows will be listed on our website, will benefit from access to the Hertie library and may be provided with desk space at the Centre, subject to availability.

Practice fellows participate in the life of the Centre, sharing their knowledge and expertise through seminars, workshops and, especially through mentoring sessions for our students.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from practitioners who are at an inflection point in their career, and have a research or strategic planning project that would benefit from being housed in an academic environment. We accept applications from citizens of all countries and encourage women and minorities to apply.
