Required Core Readings MPP

The following reading lists relate to MPP core courses. Although most instructors recommend preliminary reading, it is not a requirement for admission to any course that the books must have been read beforehand. Students are not expected to purchase these books; all are available from Hertie Library. However, if you do acquire them, they may remain useful to you during your studies.

Interlibrary Loan
This service provides access to materials not available in the Hertie School Library collections. A wide variety of printed and electronic material can be obtained from other Libraries within Germany, including books, chapters from books and journal articles.

Final year Students
When you begin planning your project we recommend you familiarise yourself with the range of resources the Library purchases for you. A good starting point is the Find Resources page. This groups together types of resources - journals, books  and newspapers (print and online).

Research Help - Don't know how to begin your research?

  • Ask a librarian for research help
  • Consult the Library Online Tutorial on moodle/Library Course
  • Request a research appointment

Book Boxes
Final year and EMPM students may have a book box in which they store the books from the library or interlibrary loans. They can take their book box with them to their study place in the library or reading room while they are reading.

  • Book Boxes may be reserved at the Circulation Desk or online.
  • The initial allocation is for four weeks.
  • All the books you keep in your book box must be borrowed through the normal loans procedures. Journals and non-borrowable material must not be kept in book boxes.
  • Book boxes may be checked, and any items which are not on loan to you will be returned to the shelves.
  • Please return the book boxes 15 minutes before the library closes.

Suggest something for the library to purchase
Anyone may suggest a book or media title for purchase by completing the Recommendation Form. There is, however, no guarantee that the title requested will be purchased. Factors considered in the selection of materials include the collection policy for the subject, the cost of the title, and the availability of funds.

Faculty and staff

This guide gives information about special library services for faculty and staff members. Our focus is to provide Hertie faculty and staff with the collection and services they need for research, teaching and curriculum development.

Ordering Materials
Members of the faculty may request the purchase of books that are required reading for courses out of their research funds.

If full-time and visiting faculty want to purchase books for their own use (e.g. faculty office collection), they should use their research funds. Books are ordered and processed through the library, and then sent to the faculty member's office. However, please remember that any books purchased with Hertie school funds are the property of the school.

Orders may be submitted in various formats: on-order request form, annotated catalogues, publishers' flyers, or through e-mail acquisition[at]hertie-school[dot]org.

For assistance with these and other acquisitions matters, contact the Manager of Library and Information Services, Michaela Jobb jobb[at]hertie-school[dot]org.

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Privileges
Faculty & Staff may use Document Delivery Service and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) free of charge to order materials not owned by the Hertie Library.

To request a book, book chapter or article through Interlibrary Loan or Document Delivery, fill out the ILL request form.

Copyright information
If you have questions about using copyright-protected materials in the classes, please check our copyright guideline.
