Library

Information for:

Students

Required core readings
The required core readings are reserved for the courses in the library and/or available on your Moodle course. Although instructors may recommend preliminary reading, it is not a requirement for admission to any course that the books are read beforehand. Students are not expected to purchase these books; all are available in the library. However, if you do acquire them, they may come in useful to you during your studies.

Interlibrary loan
This service provides access to materials not available in the Hertie School Library collections. A wide variety of printed and electronic material can be obtained from other German libraries, including books, chapters from books and journal articles.

Final year students
When you begin planning your project we recommend that you familiarise yourself with the range of resources the library offers. A good starting point is the Find Resources page, which lists various types of resources – journals, books and newspapers (print and online).

Research help: Don't know how to begin your research?

  • Ask a librarian for research help
  • Consult the Library online tutorial on Moodle/Library course
  • Request a research appointment

Suggest something for the library to purchase
Anyone may suggest a book or media title for purchase by completing the contact form for recommendations. There is, however, no guarantee that the title requested will be purchased. Factors considered in the selection of materials include the library's collection policy, the cost of the title and the availability of funds.

Faculty and staff

This guide gives information about special library services for faculty and staff members. Our focus is to provide Hertie faculty and staff with the collection and services they need for research, teaching and curriculum development.

Ordering Materials
Members of the faculty may request the purchase of books that are required reading for courses out of their research funds.

If full-time and visiting faculty want to purchase books for their own use (e.g. faculty office collection), they should use their research funds. Books are ordered and processed through the library, and then sent to the faculty member's office. However, please remember that any books purchased with Hertie school funds are the property of the school.

Orders may be submitted in various formats: on-order request form, annotated catalogues, publishers' flyers, or through e-mail library[at]hertie-school[dot]org.

For assistance with these and other acquisition matters, please contact Anke Reintsch reintsch[at]hertie-school[dot]org.

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Privileges
Faculty & Staff may use Document Delivery Service and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) free of charge to order materials not owned by the Hertie Library.

To request a book, book chapter or article through Interlibrary Loan or Document Delivery, fill out the ILL request form.

Copyright information
If you have questions about using copyright-protected materials in the classes, please check our copyright guideline.
