Andrea Römmele comments on German Interior Minister's state election candidacy on tagesthemen

"If she loses in Hesse, she will be a tarnished Minister of the Interior," says the political communications expert.

Nancy Faeser, the German Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, has declared her candidacy for minister president of Hesse in the German state's October 2023 elections. The Social Democrat will continue heading the German Interior Ministry until then, however, and plans to continue serving as federal minister if her election campaign proves unsuccessful – a choice criticised not only by political opponents but also by members of her own coalition government.

"If Ms Faeser wins in Hesse, [Scholz] will have to reshuffle his cabinet yet again," says Dean of Executive Education and Professor for Communication in politics and Civil Society Andrea Römmele comments in a tagesthemen broadcast from 2 February. "If she loses in Hesse, she will be a tarnished Minister of the Interior."

Watch the full episode (in German), with Römmele's remarks starting at 18:20.
