Andrea Römmele offers her perspective on the German Chancellor’s crisis communications approach

In an interview with news agency dpa, Römmele says the style of Chancellor Merkel has recently changed.

The “manner and frequency” with which Merkel has appeared in the media to communicate the government’s COVID-19 regulations are new, Hertie School Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society Andrea Römmele told German news agency dpa.

Römmele believes that the Chancellor has noticed a certain “corona fatigue” in the German population, which has influenced her approach, as she continues to try and encourage compliance to the lockdown rules.
