Former EU Commissioner László Andor Mercator Senior Fellow at the Hertie School

The former EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor joins the Hertie School as Mercator Senior Fellow as of February 2015.

Berlin, 3 February 2015 – The former EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor joins the Hertie School as Mercator Senior Fellow as of February 2015. In context of a cooperation with Stiftung Mercator, Andor will conduct research in the field of “Cohesion and Convergence in Europe“ and will tackle the problem of increasing disparity and threatened social cohesion in the EU. A special focus of his research will be the future development of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union.

„László Andor’s unique expertise in questions of social policy and European labour market policy is a true enrichment for our university“, says Prof. Dr. Helmut K. Anheier, President of the Hertie School. „We are happy for the opportunity to strengthen and extend our cooperation with Stiftung Mercator in this way.“
Andor served as EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion from 2010 until 2014. Previously, he was a member of the board of directors at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and adviser for the Prime Minister's Office in Hungary. He has been Associate Professor at the Department of Economic Policy (Corvinus University of Budapest) since 2000 and was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa at Sofia University of National and World Economy in May 2014. He is a member of the French Legion of Honour.
