Hertie School students meet Federica Mogherini

The meeting, which included five Hertie School students, focused on the EU’s top priorities in the next fifteen years.

A group of five Hertie School students and researchers was invited to meet with the new High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini on Monday, 10 November, in Berlin. The meeting with academics, representatives of think tank, and civil society groups centered around  the EU’s top priorities in the ten to fifteen years.

"HRVP Mogherini adopted a particularly open-minded approach and declared to visit all 28 capitals in the beginning of her term", says Hertie School doctoral student Maurits Meijers. "She called for a new long term vision for European Union foreign policy and focussed in particular on EU-Russia relations during the 1.5-hour discussion."

Hertie School Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Nina Hall addressed the issue concerning refugees and the Dublin Regulation. Mogherini confirmed the importance of the topic and suggested that member states may need to consider establishing humanitarian corridors and revising the "Dublin Protocol" to ensure asylum seekers are more evenly welcomed across Europe. "Mogherini was dynamic and ambitious about her potential to be an agenda setter, and not simply react to the problems of the day", summarises Nina.

The Hertie School would like to thank the European Commission Representation in Germany for this great opportunity!
