Highlights from the third EMPA Alumni and Student Retreat

EMPA alumni and a number of current EMPA students gathered for their annual retreat at scenic Schwielowsee lake.

Within the framework of the Hertie School’s tenth anniversary, alumni from six years as well as a number of current students of the EMPM programme gathered for their annual retreat at scenic Schwielowsee lake in Caputh, Brandenburg.

This year’s retreat focused on current international and national practices and trends of Open Government and the challenges faced by public administration, recognising the fact that internet and social media change the world, and that even governments must explore new ways of public participation in political decision-making processes. Students and alumni engaged in lively discussions with guest experts and contributed to the topic by sharing their own experiences in this field.

As every year, EMPM faculty and team gave updates on recent developments of the Hertie School, research and programmes. Besides the formal sessions, there was of course also plenty of time for networking, exchanging experiences and informal discussions. Participants enjoyed the warm spring weather at the lake,  hike to a nearby castle and a local brewery, and some also took a swim in the lake.
