Johannes Lindner is new Henrik Enderlein Fellow and Co-Director of the Jacques Delors Centre

The first recipient of the fellowship funded by Stiftung Mercator will research and teach about EU eco-nomic and financial policy.

Berlin, 4 October 2022.  Johannes Lindner is starting his new role at the Hertie School in Berlin today. The political scientist and economist is not only the new co-director of the Jacques Delors Centre, he will also research and teach at the Hertie School, thanks to the newly created Henrik Enderlein Fellowship. His work will focus on EU economic and fiscal policy. At the Jacques Delors Centre, Lindner will succeed Anke Hassel and lead the centre’s think-tank work. Markus Jachtenfuchs will remain co-director for research.

The Henrik Enderlein Fellowship, which commemorates the Hertie School’s late president and co-founder of the Jacques Delors Centre, will enable regular research stays at the Hertie School over the next five years from scholars and academics. The fellowship is funded by the foundation Stiftung Mercator.

Strengthening European policy work and continuing Henrik Enderlein's tradition

"We are proud to welcome Johannes Lindner, a distinguished political economist and passionate European, to the Hertie School, said Hertie School President Cornelia Woll. “With heart, spirit for research and a wealth of experience, he will both advance the European policy work of the Jacques Delors Centre and build a bridge to research and teaching at the Hertie School thanks to the Enderlein Fellowship. Anke Hassel has been a competent director of the Delors Centre during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to her engagement, Johannes Linder will have the best conditions to carry on the centre’s successful work. Johannes Linder’s expertise in finance and European policy, will allow him to continue the tradition of our former president Henrik Enderlein, whose work we honour with the fellowship.”

"I am very much looking forward to taking on my tasks at the Hertie School and the Jacques Delors Centre, both of which enjoy an outstanding reputation throughout Europe,” says Johannes Lindner. “As the new co-director and Enderlein Fellow, I have the unique opportunity to work both academically and practically oriented in a time of great upheaval, and to give insights into European policy."
