Marina Henke talks to ZDFheute about Afghanistan, causes and implications of recent developments

Professor of International Relations discusses the future and past of the war-torn country on the @zdfheute Instagram channel.

Marina Henke, Professor of International Relations and Director of the Centre for International Security, offers the backstory of the conflict in Afghanistan during a live interview with Mitri Sirin (ZDF). She analyzes the failed nation building approach in historical perspective. Henke further looks at the Taliban’s logic of action and the role of neighboring Pakistan. With a view to the future, she weighs the potential consequences of a chaotic withdrawal for U.S. credibility and NATO. Her prognosis is a refocusing from the war on terror towards great power competition between the United States and China.
