In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Anke Hassel weighs in on Germany’s latest rules regarding overnight stays.
Last week, most German states adopted a rule that prohibits overnight stays in hotels or other accommodation of people coming from so-called coronavirus hotspots. This decision has caused nationwide criticism, especially as the changes came ahead of school holidays in most Germany states.
Anke Hassel, Professor of Public Policy at the Hertie School, believes the rulings are disproportionately unfair for families. According to Hassel, the new restrictions punish “families that are probably least responsible for spreading the virus, but instead stay at home in the evenings and keep businesses running.”
