In an interview with ORF radio, Michaela Kreyenfeld says the new development is a positive sign.
Caring for their children at home during the COVID-19 lockdown has been a great burden for many parents. A study conducted by the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) in Germany shows that even though women still bear the majority of responsibility, fathers are catching up.
In an interview with Austrian radio ORF, Hertie School Professor of Sociology Michaela Kreyenfeld says the study revealed that fathers spent an average of two and a half hours more per day with their children during the lockdown – an increase of almost 92 percent compared to the previous year.
Kreyenfeld, who is part of the SOEP, presented the findings of the study at an online conference of the Austrian Academy of Sciences on November 30.
