Alumni video: Meet Omer Ali (MPP 2020)

The alum shares insights into his work in the field of migration policy, his time at the Hertie School, and advice to incoming Hertie School students.

The migration policy expert talks about how his time at Hertie prepared him for his role at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). Originally from Pakistan, Omer completed his undergraduate degree in the United States and then returned to his home country to work in development. He decided to do a Master of Public Policy at the Hertie School to upskill himself. One reason he decided to come to Berlin was that it is a city with a lot going on in terms of policy, “not just nationally, but regionally and even internationally”.

During last year’s Alumni Reunion, we spoke to him about his path from the Hertie School to his current position as Project Officer at the ICMPD. How did his courses prepare him for his current work, what resources did he use to advance his career, and what advice would he give to incoming Hertie students? Watch the full interview below.
