On German TV, Römmele comments on Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer's plans to step down as CDU leader.
Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, leader of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union since 2018, announced she will not run for Chancellor in the next election and that she will step down from her position in the summer. Andrea Römmele, Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society at the Hertie School, commented on German TV about the recent difficulties Kramp-Karrenbauer has had in lining up inner-party support. On the news programme tagesschau, Römmele said that, "It's the great task of a new leader to unite the party". She also offered an outlook on the impact this will have on the party itself as well as potential successors.
