Anke Hassel appointed to German government advisory council ‘Hightech Forum’

Hertie School Professor of Public Policy Anke Hassel has joined the Hightech Forum, an advisory council offering insights on technological innovation to the German government’s Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Hassel took up her new role as chair of the sub-group on social innovation on 5 June.

The 21-member council, formed in January, advises the government on how to more effectively and quickly harness opportunities offered by new technologies, as part of the BMBF’s Hightech Strategy 2025.  The group is made up of experts from academia, business and society and is chaired by State Secretary Christian Luft of the BMBF, and Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft research organisation.

The social innovation group of the Hightech Forum will hold workshops in the coming months to explore areas that could become models for approaching various social issues – for example in mobility (e.g. public infrastructure or car-sharing) and in social integration (e.g multi-generational projects or the integration of migrants). The aim is to submit a paper at the next meeting in November with insights on how the government can foster social innovation as part of its Hightech Strategy 2025.
